Summer Applied Economics Research Course Provides Valuable Experience for Man Econ Students

The first ever Summer Applied Economics Research Course, a facet of the Diversity and Inclusion in Research, Education, and Career Training Program (DIRECT), was recently held during summer session II. The course, open to current Managerial Economics students and incoming transfer students, provides an opportunity for participants to explore and define their own research questions while completing a research project related to a current challenge facing California communities.

Vinal Chand and Jiaxin “Iris” Zheng Receive Outstanding Seniors Award in Managerial Economics

Congratulations to Vinal Chand and Jiaxin “Iris” Zheng for being named the Outstanding Seniors in Managerial Economics!

The Outstanding Senior Award recognizes an exceptional undergraduate senior in the major who has achieved academic excellence, outstanding leadership activities, and upholds the Principles of Community at UC Davis. Both Chand and Zheng were nominated by Professors Kristin Kiesel and Jeffrey Williams.

First-Ever Microeconomics Summer Math Camp Prepares Students for ARE 100A

This September 12–15, the ARE department held the first-ever Microeconomics Math Camp. The workshop lectures, guided exercises and individual support aimed to help students prepare for Intermediate Microeconomics (ARE 100A and B), a crucial building block in the managerial economics curriculum. The summer Math Camp is facet of the Diversity and Inclusion in Research, Education, and Career Training Program (DIRECT).

Andrea Gomez Lloret and Serena Leung Receive Outstanding Seniors Award in Managerial Economics

Congratulations to Andrea Gomez Lloret and Serena Leung for being named the Outstanding Seniors in Managerial Economics!

The Outstanding Senior Award recognizes an exceptional undergraduate senior in the major who has achieved academic excellence, outstanding leadership activities, and upholds the Principles of Community at UC Davis. Gomez Lloret was nominated by Professors Colin Carter and Aaron Smith, and Leung was nominated by Professor Dalia Ghanem. 

Congratulations to the Managerial Economics Graduating Class of 2022 and Departmental Citation Awardees

The Agricultural and Resource Economics Department congratulates the Managerial Economics graduating class of 2022! You took on a very challenging past couple of years yet, you persisted. We celebrate your many achievements, resilience, and hard work. 

We also wish to recognize our Departmental Citation awardees for the year. These students have achieved a minimum major GPA of 3.900 and had no more than 2 core and restricted elective requirements taken as P/NP. The following students are recipients for the class of 2022:

Honors Thesis Program Concludes with Student Presentations

This year’s Undergraduate Honors Thesis Program concluded with in-person presentations. On February 23 and March 2, honors thesis participants presented in the DeLoach conference room and ARE library. Each presentation was followed by thoughtful Q&A sessions and students reflecting on key lessons learned from the research experience.  

Laurel Krovetz Receives Outstanding Senior Award in Managerial Economics

Congratulations to Laurel Krovetz for being named the Outstanding Senior in Managerial Economics! 

The Outstanding Senior Award recognizes an exceptional undergraduate senior in the major who has achieved academic excellence, outstanding leadership activities, and upholds the Principles of Community at UC Davis. Krovetz was nominated by Professors Michael Carter and Travis Lybbert.

FFA Alumni Speak on Careers in Agricultural Economics at World Ag Expo 2021

Students, alumni, and faculty from the UC Davis Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics discussed their FFA experiences and career paths during the panel "Managing the Business of Agriculture" as part of the annual World Ag Expo, held virtually February 9-11, 2021.

Managerial Economics Career Path Stories

Joshua Tan, a 2014 graduate of the managerial economics major says that as he approached his graduation he “felt nudged to apply for more traditional business roles like accounting, recruiting, and operations.” With the Silicon Valley nearby, he also saw recent alumni opting to work for tech giants (even in temporary contract positions) to jump start their careers.
