Joshua Tan, a 2014 graduate of the managerial economics major says that as he approached his graduation he “felt nudged to apply for more traditional business roles like accounting, recruiting, and operations.” With the Silicon Valley nearby, he also saw recent alumni opting to work for tech giants (even in temporary contract positions) to jump start their careers.

Seminar Series Kicked-Off Successful Online Orientation

50 UCD faculty members, including 16 in the CAES, ran a 3-day seminar series from September 25-27 as part of Aggie Orientation, welcoming new first-year and transfer students and providing them with critical information and skills for “Aggie Success” particularly in a COVID era. Each seminar was supported by two UCD undergraduate Aggie Success Assistants who offered their perspectives on life as an undergraduate while providing technical assistance to the faculty presenters.

New AAEA Publication Details ARE Professor Kristin Kiesel’s Work Developing Important Campus Support Resource

ARE Assistant Professor of Teaching Kristin Kiesel co-authored a recent article for the AAEA Applied Economics Teaching Resources describing the development of an online resource page for students, faculty, and staff at UC Davis. The article describes the genesis and ongoing development of the robust FAQ page designed to provide information to students, particularly in times of high stress, as well as to faculty and staff supporting students.  

Meet Erick Tobar, incoming Managerial Economics major

An interest in business and numbers led Erick Tobar to the Managerial Economics major. Tobar, an incoming transfer student, who hopes to become a CPA, said that when deciding where to go after community college, attending the University of California was always his top goal. He chose UC Davis because of the university’s cutting-edge research and culture of community involvement and inclusiveness.

Kajal Raju Receives Outstanding Senior Award in Managerial Economics

Congratulations to Kajal Raju for being named the Outstanding Senior in Managerial Economics!  The Outstanding Senior award recognizes an exceptional undergraduate senior in the major who has achieved academic excellence.

Raju's nomination was supported by Professors Dalia Ghanem and Jeffrey Williams.

Honors Thesis Students Present at Annual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities Conference

Launch of New Managerial Economics Website

We are excited to announce the launch of the newly redesigned Managerial Economics website. The new website is built on SiteFarm, the campus-supported content management system (CMS) service.

The Managerial Economics advising team made the push to move the website to SiteFarm in order to have uniformity with other undergraduate programs’ sites and the College’s sites. Additionally, SiteFarm is hosted on a speedy, reliable cloud hosting platform that is easy to use.

Honors Thesis Program Concludes with Student Presentations

This year’s Undergraduate Honors Thesis Program concluded with participants presenting their research at two department brown bags on April 6, 2020. Each presentation was followed by a lively discussion session where students thoughtfully answered questions, addressed the challenges of limited data sets, as well as areas for further research.
