Rachael Goodhue – ARE Professor and Department Chair and UC Davis Academic Senate Chair – Takes Part in Chancellor May's Investiture Ceremony

Oct. 27, 2017

Dr. Rachael Goodhue, Agricultural and Resource Economics professor and department chair, participated in Chancellor Gary May's recent investiture ceremony in her role of UC Davis Academic Senate Chair.

The investiture is a formal ceremony of conferring the authority and symbols of high office. University academics and officials on stage in the Mondavi Center wore their caps and gowns. The color of each faculty member's hood denotes where they earned their Ph.D. During Chancellor May's investiture, presiding UC President Janet Napolatino removed May's UC Berekely hood and replaced it with a UC Davis hood. Napolatino also presented May with the Chancellor's Medal.

Among Goodhue's comments were, "Chancellor May has already been a great partner to the Academic Senate. His energy, his enthusiasm and his ambitions for UC Davis match the faculty's own. He has brought to his first months an eagerness to learn and engage, which is essential to understanding the complexity and the depth of UC Davis and its impact on California and the world. In addition, Chancellor May recognizes that the story of UC Davis remains in many ways unwritten. To write it will take optimism, determination and a hunger to examine the unknown."

A video and more information about the investiture may be found at UC Davis News.
