Yolo Federal Credit Union Give Day Challenge Scholarship Awarded to Managerial Economics Student Kristin Chen

Sept. 21, 2018

Yolo Federal Credit Union (YFCU) held a Give Day Challenge Scholarship “Meet and Greet” event at the UC Davis Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE) for the formal presentation of a scholarship to Managerial Economics senior Kristin Chen.

This scholarship is the result YFCU’s participation in a Challenge held during the second annual UC Davis Give Day, a 29-hour fundraising event in April. YFCU challenged UC Davis supporters to reach a goal of donating 20 gifts in support of the Agricultural and Resource Economics Student Support Fund. When the goal was met, a $5,300 YFCU scholarship was unlocked.

“This scholarship is very important to me to complete my final year at UC Davis, which brings me one stop closer to becoming a financial analyst in the future,” said scholarship recipient Chen.

The Meet and Greet included time for ARE Professor and Department Chair Rachael Goodhue to inform the YFCU team about the department work being done to promote financial wellness.

“Many thanks to Yolo Federal Credit Union for supporting Kristin Chen’s education,” Goodhue said. “Kristin’s professors in her finance courses and our major advisors identified her as a high-performing candidate for this scholarship.”

YFCU President and CEO Jenee Rawlings stressed the importance of such support.

“At Yolo Federal Credit Union, our mission is to help members achieve financial success and build wealth,” Rawlings said. “For nearly 65 years we’ve been committed to the financial wellbeing of Yolo County. We are honored to partner with UC Davis to provide a scholarship to students who share in the same philosophy. Kristin is a worthy recipient of this scholarship and we’re excited for what the future holds for her.”

YFCU Vice President of Marketing and Operations Kelley Jacobsen said they’re proud to support this “local difference.”

“Our slogan is ‘discover the local difference’ and we’re proud to make a difference in our community and even prouder to further the local difference by awarding this $5,300 scholarship to Kristin Chen,” she said. “Congratulations to Kristin on her success as a student at UC Davis. We wish her the very best in her aspirations to become a financial analyst.”
